L’Equipe are reporting that Sunderland defender Sebastian Coates is on his way out of Wearside, with Portuguese side Sporting CP keen on the defender.
The Uruguayan signed for the Black Cats permanently after a somewhat successful loan deal last season, and the four-year contract he signed could only last six months if he is on his way out this January.
The former Liverpool man has been a first team player this season, appearing 16 times in the league alone. Sporting fans have instantly took to the internet ahead of a hopeful move for the 25-year-old, and they seem to be pleased with what they could be acquiring. If the defender was to leave this month it would surely mean another centre-back would have to be brought in over the coming days, as we would only have four in the first team.
The deal supposedly proposed with the Portuguese giants is a six-month loan with an option to buy for £3.8-million in the summer, a £1.8-million profit for Sunderland. One hopeful thing to note about this deal is that a potential target for Sam Allardyce’s side, Islam Slimani, is currently playing for the Lisbon-based side, and for all we know could have some involvement with the deal, which could be the signing of the window as multiple Premier League clubs are apparently scouting the Algerian striker.
