The Swede joined Sunderland in the Summer on a season-long loan in the hope of making an impact in the Premier League, however, his recent showings for the Under-21 side suggest the number 20 will not be making the first team squad any time soon, as reported by the Sunderland Echo.
The attacking-midfielder supposedly featured in the closed door 6-0 washout at the Stadium of Light against Newcastle, suggesting his performance earned him a place amongst the youngsters in their defence of the league’s top position against Chelsea, where the game finished a bore 0-0 draw and was a stronger day for the defenders.

This brings forward the possibility of ending the loan with French side Rennes early in order to free up the fair play budget we’ve heard the Mackems are excruciatingly close to exceeding over recent weeks. Yet Sam Allardyce has confirmed recently that the Swedish international and young right-back DeAndre Yedlin on loan from Tottenham will not be leaving this January, even if they become limited to a backup role writes the Shields Gazette:
I don’t think there’s any leverage (to end the loans early). Their deals are for one season. We need a squad and players who might have to play.
The 29-year old has started 11 times for the Black Cats this season, scoring his only goal in a 4-1 defeat at home to Manchester City in the Capital One Cup, while only picking up two assists in nine league games.
