Sam Allardyce says Sunderland need six wins from their last thirteen games in order to guarantee Premier League survival, according to the Sunderland Echo.
With just five wins so far this season, the Black Cats sit second bottom of the table on 20 points after 25 games – four points from safety – with very little time remaining for the Lads to pull off yet another great escape.
Despite coming from 2-0 down to rescue a draw at Anfield, Sunderland are still in deep danger of ending their nine season stay in the Premier League – with a visit from Manchester United next meaning that their lives aren’t going to get any easier.
Thirteen games, six wins. They’ve done it before, haven’t they? They’re good at miraculous recoveries here – let’s hope we can do it again. We’ve still got an awful long way to go, but a point at Liverpool is very precious, particularly under the circumstances.
A positive display against Manchester City sadly ended in a loss, but the spirit of that game – coupled with the last 10 minutes at Anfield – can save Sunderland if they can add goals to the mix.
If they can start playing more like they did against Man City, couple that with spirit and scoring goals, then we’ve got a good chance of getting out of trouble.
One hopes that the players can indeed pull off a fourth consecutive escape from relegation.
