Scotland International Steven Fletcher has revealed to the French media that he wishes to stay at Marseille next season once his contract at Sunderland is finished.
“Yes, my contract ends in June with Sunderland. I finish the season here in Marseille, and I want to show what I am capable of doing and try to impress the club to get a contract at the end. It would great, but now I have to prove on the field. “
Fletcher made his debut for Marseille last weekend against Paris Saint-Germain as a second-half substitute and is hopeful of breaking into the first team fold soon. It is likely that we have seen the last of Fletcher on Wearside, with the £12-million man having a frustrating spell in the north-east.

“We spoke before he went, he came and asked me about it, I said if you’re going to France, then PSG, Lyon and Marseille are the clubs to go and play for. Luckily, he had Marseille knocking at the door.”
