Following the release of Adam Johnson from his contract and the likelihood of Emmanuele Giaccherini departing permanently in the summer, the Black Cats are in desperate need of reinforcements on the flanks in whichever league they end up in next season.
Currently, Jeremain Lens and Duncan Watmore are the only senior out-and-out wingers at the club – although Wahbi Khazri, Fabio Borini and Sebastian Larsson are capable of covering the position too. Giaccherini, Charis Mavrias and Will Buckley are all out on loan and look unlikely to return.
