Wahbi Khazri believes that Sunderland have the ability to fight off the threat of relegation once again. The Tunisian was speaking in an interview with Sunderland’s official website.
Following the Black Cats run of four points from three games against top opposition, Khazri – who joined the club in January – believes that the team can use these performances to get out of the bottom three.
We played big games and we’ve showed that we’re worth more than the bottom three. We’ve just got to take it match-by-match and do what what we need to stay in the Premier League. It’s very tight down the bottom and all we need is a good run of wins.
Khazri’s set pieces led Sunderland to claim a surprising 2-1 victory over Manchester United. He scored the first direct from a free kick and his corner allowed Koné to head home the second. When asked about his set pieces, he said:
It’s good to score for the first time and good for my confidence, and for me to score and for us to beat Man United makes it even better.Obviously when I was at Bordeaux I had a lot of success with my set pieces, so I’m happy that the winning goal came from one of my corners and hopefully that will continue.
The Lads are currently in Dubai on a summer training camp following a hectic fixture schedule over six weeks and Khazri thinks that the time will be crucial for the players if they are to perform to their best against West Ham on Saturday.
It will be good to recuperate properly and work on a few things because the matches come around so quickly.
