England to host Australia at the Stadium of Light

The England National Team will play Australia at the Stadium of Light on the 27th May as the Three Lions make a return to the home of the Black Cats.

Ahead of Euro 2016, The FA has announced three friendly matches to prepare for the summer competition in France. For the first time since 2007, England will play home games away from Wembley – with Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium welcoming the national side for a game against Turkey. The final match will see Portugal visit Wembley in June.

England have played two previous matches at the Stadium of Light – the first a 2-1 victory in a friendly against Belgium in 1999 before a Euro 2004 qualification match saw the Three Lions beat Turkey 2-0 in 2003.

Speaking of the plans, England manager Roy Hodgson said:

I’m happy that we have been able to secure three challenging opponents that will help us prepare for the tournament.Since the draw in Paris last December, The FA has worked hard to put together a programme of games around the country and we’re looking forward to playing in the north-west and north-east before the final home game at Wembley.

The match kicks off at 7:45 PM, however tickets will not be sold via Sunderland’s ticket office but through the England Supporters Club website. They go on sale on March 14th, with prices yet to be confirmed.
