Sunderland have been handed a boost in their bid for survival with the news that forward Duncan Watmore is ahead of schedule in his recovery from an ankle ligament injury.
According to the Sunderland Echo, Watmore resumed light training two weeks ahead of schedule, and despite being initially ruled out for the majority of the season, could feature in the last five games.
Watmore was originally injured in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool in January, but could feature again as early as the Arsenal game at the end of April.
The former Altrincham man’s return could play a big part in Sunderland’s fight for survival as the current situation looks as though it will be two from themselves, Newcastle and Norwich to go down along with the already doomed Aston Villa.
The six-pointer against Norwich on the 16th of April will most likely come too early for Watmore, but he will be a welcome part of the squad for the run-in then on.
