Sunderland take on Chelsea this weekend in a match that the Black Cats could seriously do with winning.
They start the weekend in the relegation zone – a point behind 17th placed Newcastle – with the season over the following week. After a string of draws – including last week’s match against Stoke – time is running out if Sunderland are to avoid the drop for the fourth year in a row.
Since the first meeting between the two sides in 1907 (which Sunderland won 3-0 at Roker Park), Chelsea have won against Sunderland 59 times. The Black Cats have a relatively impressive 41 wins over the outgoing champions, whilst 22 games have been draws.
In the 123rd game between these sides, who is going to come out on top? We look back at some of the best and worst games from a Sunderland perspective against the Blues. Let’s hope that we can add another to the best list tomorrow.
