The summer transfer window is almost open, and Sunderland chairman Ellis Short could be looking to sell some of his players, but which players would he sell? Would it be captain John O’Shea or Dutchman Jeremain Lens?
According to a recent report by Swiss sports economists the CIES Observatory, the Sunderland squad is worth £111 million combined, including on loan signings DeAndre Yedlin, Yann M’Vila, Ola Toivonen, and Dame N’Doye. The CIES Observatory use a metric system to suspect the price tag of a certain football which takes into account the players age, performances, experience, international status, contract length, position and level that the whole squad have been playing at. The CIES report stated:
“The strength of this correlation shows that, on one hand, the footballers’ transfer market is rational and, on the other, that its rationality has been well understood by the econometric model developed by the CIES Football Observatory academic team.”
