Chase for Bridcutt heats up

Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt is a genuine target for Championship side Leeds United according to reports from the Sunderland Echo. The midfielder has no future at the Stadium of Light and spent the majority of last season out on loan at Leeds United. The £2.5-million signing has a year left on his contract and is expected to depart Wearside either on loan or permanently, although the Black Cats are expected to make a heavy loss on the Scot.

Leeds were interested in converting Bridcutt’s loan into a permanent switch at the end of last season after making 27 appearances for the Championship outfit having joined in January. However, the sacking of manager Steve Evans, the man who signed Bridcutt, had thrown into doubt whether Leeds would push ahead with their plans for the 27-year-old this summer.

But after the appointment of new boss Garry Monk, Leeds are thought to still be interested in taking Bridcutt back to Yorkshire, although Sunderland would still want a significant return on their investment for the ex-Brighton man, with a fee between £500,000 and £1-million believed to be enough to tempt the Black Cats.
