Reports today have linked Sunderland with a move for Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost. Dost is the latest name to be connected with Sunderland who are clearly looking to strengthen up front during the summer transfer window- both Diafra Sakho and Edin Dzeko have also been mooted as possible alternative transfer targets.
Whilst both Sakho and Dzeko could prove to be expensive acquisitions, Dost is in the last 12 months of his contract at Wolfsburg and the German club appear to be willing to let him go at a cut-price fee before his contract expires. However, Sunderland could face competition if they were to move for the 6 foot 5 striker, with Hamburg reportedly interested.

Formerly a transfer target of Newcastle, Dost’s record in Germany appears to be good- last season he scored 10 goals in 33 games across all competitions for a Wolfsburg side who finished 8th in the league, taking his overall Wolfsburg record to 47 goals in 115 games. Despite possessing an overall goal to game ratio better than 1 in 3, Dost only assisted a teammate twice last season which is a potential worry if he is indeed brought into partner Jermain Defoe.
With Wolfsburg today being linked with a €20million move for Juventus striker Simone Zaza, it looks as though Sunderland’s reported interest in the Dutch target man could indeed be feasible.
