Sunderland set to make bid for Dzeko

Sunderland are reportedly going to make €18million bid to Roma for striker Edin Dzeko

According to Italian football journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, the Black Cats will make a renewed bid for Dzeko in the next few days and the player will be able to choose if he wishes to stay in Italy or make the move back to England.

Roma signed Dzeko on loan at the start of last season but the deal contained a fixed agreement for the move to be made permanent this summer for a fee of £8million.

However, manager Luciano Spaletti is already looking to sell the striker who failed to live up to the hype when he first joined, scoring just eight Serie A goals in 31 appearances last season.

The former Manchester City striker has proven that he can score goals in England and if he does make the move to Sunderland, the Black Cats could team him up with Jermain Defoe in a ‘big man/little man’ partnership, something which worked well back in the day with Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips
