According to the Chronicle, Argentinian side Boca Juniors’ president has confirmed that his side are interested in Sunderland’s defender, Santiago Vergini.
During his two-and-a-half year stay with the Black Cats, the 27-year-old has failed to make an impression to his managers, and the fans. On that note, boss Sam Allardyce is ready to clear the dead wood at the Stadium of Light, which will include defender Vergini.
The defender initally arrived on Wearside back in January 2014 on loan from Estudiantes, before his move was made permanent last June. However, Vergini, who made 51 appearances for Premier League side Sunderland, was loaned out to La Liga side Getafe, who were relegated to the Spanish second division last season.

Their relegation ended any hope Vergini had of ending his time in Sunderland for sunny Spain, despite the player’s best efforts in his 28 appearances for the Spaniards.
Recent reports suggest that the defender returned to his hometown in seek of a new team, and Boca Juniors have expressed their interest via their president.
I believe we’re signing Vergini. We’ve advanced with the negotiations, we have everything almost done with the club and the player.
