Sunderland have today allowed Emanuele Giaccherini a return to his homeland as the midfielder completed his move to Napoli, a deal expected to be confirmed by the club soon. The fee is understood to be worth up to €2-million for the Italian, who leaves Sunderland after just two seasons in red and white.
Since arriving from Juventus for £6-million in 2013, Giaccherini has made 43 appearances for the Black Cats, scoring five times. He spent last season on loan at Bologna and he impressed, earning himself a call-up to the Italian national squad for Euro 2016 where he shone, scoring in the opening match.

Giaccherini has signed a three-year deal in Naples, earning around £1.2-million per-year. Torino had been the favourites for the little Italians signature, but the Partenopei surged forward over the last 48 hours to secure the deal.
The news is likely to be disappointing for Sunderland fans, who never really saw the best from Giaccherini during an underwhelming spell on Wearside.
