Sunderland have today entered the race for Christian Benteke according to reports from Simon Bird of the Daily Mirror.
Black Cats boss David Moyes has made a strong and powerful striker a priority this summer and has the out-of-favour Anfield striker in his sights. But Moyes’ former club Everton also have an audacious move for the Belgian lined up in the event that Chelsea meet their £75-million valuation for striker Romelu Lukaku.
Crystal Palace made a move for Benteke last month but while the Londoners were ready to meet his £120,000-a-week wages it is believed that they failed to match Liverpool’s £30million asking price.
Liverpool are adamant that Benteke will stay unless that valuation is met, despite the fact he is down the pecking order at Anfield.

Moyes is focused on bringing in some much-needed firepower to the Stadium of Light after the Black Cats relied heavily on Jermain Defoe’s goals to keep them up last season. With Defoe and Fabio Borini the only first-team strikers available, Sunderland are in some much need of some fresh blood up-top.
