The Premier League season is finally upon us!
After what seems like the busiest summer of all time for Sunderland, new manager David Moyes will take charge of his first competitive game as manager of the Black Cats. It isn’t the easy start he was hoping for either, with the Lads visiting the Etihad Stadium to play Manchester City.
All three of Moyes’ summer signings are available for selection, with Papy Djilobodji extremely likely to start in defensive midfield due to Jan Kirchhoff’s injury. Jermain Defoe is fit after suffering from a muscle strain in pre-season.
Sunderland are extremely short on forwards at the moment, meaning that some of the academy players are likely to appear on the bench. Joel Asoro has shone in the friendlies, but Josh Maja has also been involved in the first team squad.
As if he didn’t have enough motivation already, David Moyes will be desperate to get one over on City due to his Manchester United past – and the fact that this will be new City boss Pep Guardiola’s first competitive game at his new club too.
