According to breaking news from Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie on Twitter last night, Everton target Lamine Kone has handed in a transfer request at Sunderland after the club broke promises regarding a new contract.

It has emerged now that Kone was assured that, at the end of last season, he would be offered a new and improved deal at the Stadium of Light. However, it now looks as though no deal has been offered and this has been key in Kone’s decision to leave and push through a move to Everton, amid serious interest from Ronald Koeman and his men behind the scenes.

It was recently reported that Everton were confident of sealing a move for the towering centre-back and it now looks as though the move has taken another step forward, with Kone releasing a statement to the Sunderland supporters as shown by Downie’s latest tweet on the situation.

Kone joined Sunderland from Lorient last January and played a key part in their survival last season. He originally rejected Everton and wanted to stay on Wearside, believing he would be getting a new contract, however, after this turned out not to be the case, Kone has decided his future and bank balance lies away from Wearside.
