According to a recent report from Metro, veteran Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe is eyeing a return to the England set-up due to Sam Allardyce’s appointment as manager of the country’s senior side.
Defoe really came into his own under Allardyce’s leadership and guidance, bagging key goals throughout the course of his tenure so far at Sunderland to help their survival hopes.
The forward also claimed that the new England boss was in attendance for Sunderland’s clash against Manchester City on Saturday, due to what David Moyes told him and his teammates prior to the match.

Yeah, he (Allardyce) was watching, the manager said that before the game he wished all the boys all the best and he gave me a little nod as if to say he is watching you.
It’s not taken long for the 33-year-old to get off the mark under new boss Moyes, either. He excellently scored the equaliser for Sunderland in their unfortunate 2-1 defeat on the opening day of the Premier League season against Manchester City.
I thought I had a chance with the previous manager but I don’t know! It is important for me to just get my head down, people will say what they like but it is down to me. I need to continue to work hard, keep sharp and forwards get judged on scoring goals.
Defoe scored 15 league goals last season and will be aiming to impress yet again as he looks to force his way into Big Sam’s plans once again and earn another scalp at international level.
