According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland have made an offer for Barnsley defender Alfie Mawson as they look to bolster their defensive options, ahead of Lamine Kone’s move in prospect away from the Stadium of Light this summer.
It’s claimed by the Daily Mail that the offer on the table from David Moyes’ side is worth £3 million; a small price to pay for another additional centre-back to bolster the Sunderland squad ahead of a certain-to-be challenging season.

However, the key reason for the move is down to the apparent acceptance and acknowledgement that Kone will not have a future at Sunderland beyond this window and Moyes wants a replacement in line before allowing the towering defender to depart.
22-year-old Mawson, however, has been catching the eye in recent times with some impressive defensive performances for Barnsley and it’s likely that the youngster will be keen to take the step up to the Premier League and join Moyes’ revolution at the Stadium of Light.
