Amid speculation as of late that Sunderland are readying a move for out-of-favour Everton midfielder James McCarthy, David Moyes has raised doubts over any potential switch for the Irishman this summer, The Guardian can report.
It was reported just days ago that a potential move for James McCarthy to the Stadium of Light could come in the form of a swap deal with Everton, for Lamine Kone and cash.
However, now that Moyes has reiterated his desire to keep Kone at the club and has now seemingly quashed talk of a move for McCarthy, a move appears to be unlikely this week.
I don’t know if we’d have that kind of cash to spend on just one player. I hope it won’t be the case in a couple of years’ time.

McCarthy is being chased by a host of clubs this summer, with Celtic, Watford and Championship side Aston Villa all said to be interested in moving for the Republic of Ireland international midfielder.
The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Everton and is set for a move away this summer, but it looks like that move won’t come in the form of Sunderland.
McCarthy played for Everton tonight as they comfortably swept aside Yeovil in the second round of the EFL Cup.
