Sunderland vs Shrewsbury – Five things to look out for

Sunderland have a golden opportunity on Wednesday night to right their previous wrongs from the previous two Premier League defeats that they have endured in recent weeks.

David Moyes’ men will come up against Shrewsbury Town in the second round of the EFL Cup and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways.

On paper, it should be an incredibly straightforward clash against a League One opposition at home for the Premier League side.

However, Sunderland head into the game with little confidence, little cohesion and a huge lack of options due to them being hit with an injury crisis as of late, made worse by the news of an elbow injury to first choice ‘keeper Vito Mannone.

It’s largely expected that Moyes’ men will comfortably sweep aside Shrewsbury on Wednesday evening but, in cup football, it’s well known that anything can happen.

Here are five things to look out for when Sunderland welcome their counterparts.
