Sunderland AFC have today confirmed the loan signing of Spanish defender Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee.
The signing of the right-back will be a big boost to one and all associated with Sunderland given their thin depth within the squad after the club was hit with a rather unfortunate injury crisis, leaving them with no recognisable right sided defender.
Manquillo also has some experience of the English game from his loan spell at Liverpool, however, he was not really given enough first-team chances nor time to impress and show what he could do on the Premier League stage.
The 22-year-old is no stranger to loan moves, either. Although Manquillo spent a season with Liverpool, he spent the last campaign in Ligue 1 on loan with French giants Marseille.
Atletico are spoilt for choice when it comes to defensive reinforcements and will be happy to see Manquillo playing weekly football with Sunderland.
