Sunderland were dealt with the news earlier on in the week that first choice goalkeeper Vito Mannone was to be ruled out for a considerable period of time with an elbow injury, sustained in training.
Many perceived this as somewhat of a blessing in disguise for young Jordan Pickford, who, with a massive reputation and plenty of potential, could finally make his mark on the Premier League in a Sunderland shirt.
However, common sense prevails and it tells you that losing the number one ‘keeper for a long period of time is going to be damaging and this issue will need to be rectified, regardless of Pickford’s undeniable potential.
Of course, this will be a panic buy. We’re just days away from the summer transfer window slamming shut but it’s become apparent that David Moyes will need to delve into the market yet again to find another goalkeeper to add to his already thin Sunderland squad.
