The last time Sunderland faced QPR the Black Cats suffered a 0-2 defeat at home. However this time the two sides meet at Loftus Road, Wednesday 21st September, in an EFL third round tie.
Although the sides, now, compete in different leagues, they find mutuality in current form. David Moyes’ red and white army found themselves on the back-end of a defeat to Spurs. Harry Kane sank the visiting Black cats on the 58th minute and left them still waiting for their first win of the Premier League season. On the other hand, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink admits confidence is low within the QPR camp, after coming off to defeats to Newcaslte United at Home (0-6) and Huddersfield Town away (2-1).
Sunderland will be without on-loan winger Adnan Januzaj due to a 90th minute red card against Spurs. Sunderland are, still, yet to give a verdict or a comment on the situation of Van Aanholt’s fitness. Further injuries include Billy Jones, Vito Mannone, Lee Cattermole and Seb Larsson. Sunderland fans can expect changes from the side that faced Spurs due to Premier League commitments against Crystal Palace, Saturday 24th September.
Likewise to Sunderland, Queens Park Rangers will be playing a Championship league game on the 24th of September, home to Birmingham. Therefore, manager, Hasslebaink admits a number of of changes can be expected; ‘I have to rest a few players that have a few knocks and will not play, and put some young players in’.
Kick off is 19:45 pm. Lower league referee Peter Banks will take charge. Cards may be expected to be shown looking at Banks’ track record last season of 153 yellow cards in 38 games.
