The Stadium of Light played host to Tony Pulis’ West Brom side, who were 10th at the time, in search for three points against a struggling Sunderland.
West Brom mission looked settled through an opening goal by Nacer Chadli out pacing Sunderland defender Lamine Kone on the 35th minute.
However substitute Van Aanholt was able to plant the pass of winger Duncan Watmore home to secure Sunderland’s second point of season and Sunderland’s only goal against West Brom in two Premier League seasons.
The result meant both teams could climb up a place in the table, the home side moved up to 19th before dropping back down to 20th due to a Stoke late draw to Manchester United, still remarkably below expectation, where as the travelling side moved up to 9th, a somewhat, surprising position so early on in the season.
With the game being end to end, there is a few names that put a shift in and deserve recognition, therefore we rate the Sunderland players performances.
