There is a lot of speculation about Sunderland and England, that never appears to die, whether it is the voice of pundits or local fans on Wearside, the ringing noise of ‘Sunderland players are overlooked by England’ is as loud as ever.
It comes about due to the fact England usually, over generations, picked players from the top four side, without, sometimes, taking in consideration form. The table, it appears, to favour players playing for the top sides in English football, whilst, even if they’re in form, players from lower down in the Premier League table, and even in other leagues, don’t get the nob by the national team due to the clubs circumstances in the table.
Whether there is truth in that is subjective, it is a matter of an opinion because no one will truly know why this happens, is it just a matter of the chosen players just having a better quality?
However, we look to the top 10 players who made the most appearances for England whilst being a Sunderland player. The stats appear to favour the theory.
