- Sunderland are determined to keep hold of their star players
- A lot of clubs will be showing interest in Robin Roefs
- What are the clubs plans for this summer?
Despite interest in goalkeeper Robin Roefs, Sunderland remain confident that the Dutchman will remain at the club next season.
With a number of clubs looking for a new number one this summer, rumours have began circulating regarding Roefs.
Tottenham Hotspur have apparently made the former NEC stopper their top choice to replace Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian looks certain to return to Serie A, with Inter Milan showing interest.
Footballinsider247 have indicated that Sunderland have no intention of doing business with them, or anybody else regarding the Dutch International.
A Step in the Wrong Direction for Roefs
With Sunderland’s strong showing in their return to the Premier League, it was inevitable that a number of clubs would be interested in their players.
Up until recently, the Black Cats were in the running for a European spot. Although that now seems unlikely, what seems even less so is Roefs leaving to join another club not competing in Europe next season.
Roberto de Zerbi’s men are currently fighting against relegation, so it would come as a huge shock to see the 23-year old swap Wearside for North London.
Spurs have also shown interest in another Dutch goalkeeper. Brighton and Hove Albion’s Bert Verbruggen has piqued their interest alongside Manchester City’s James Trafford.
Sunderland themselves look well stocked between the sticks. Melker Ellborg has looked solid when called upon since joining in January and Anthony Patterson – who is currently preparing for the Championship playoffs with Millwall – is still on the books at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland transfer activity
Regis Le Bris will be looking to improve his squad next season, and prove that this season wasn’t a fluke. He will be hoping that the goalkeeping department, however. can be left alone.
Le Bris will be looking to reinforce his squad, but does not expect a summer as busy as last year. This time around it will be a matter of fine tuning an already impressive squad.
Who is heading towards an exit?
A number of outgoings are expected, but the club are hopeful that their star performers will remain.
Keeping hold of their stars will be paramount in continuing Sunderland’s rise up the league. With Brian Brobbey courting interest from Bayern Munich, the club need to show they mean business by keeping him.
Sunderland are still trying to tie down Lutsharel Geertruida before this loan spell comes to an end. The former Feyenoord man is currently on load at the Stadium of Light from RB Leipzig, and after Liverpool showed interest in him in January, the board will be looking to sign him permanently sooner rather than later.
A few players are out of contract this summer, and don’t look likely to renew. Bertrand Traore will be out the door, and Dan Neil won’t return from his loan spell at Ipswich Town.
Dennis Cirkin has struggled this season, due to injuries and with his contract also set to expire, it looks less and less likely that he will be offered new terms.
