Regis Le Bris Backs Enzo Le Fee After Penalty Miss Against Arsenal

Régis Le Bris has defended his French midfielder following a penalty miss. Sunderland suffered a 2-0 defeat against reigning champions Arsenal during their 8pm kick-off at the Stadium of Light. David Raya pushed Le Fée’s penalty onto the post shortly before Bruno Guimarães opened the scoring. Bukayo Saka later converted a spot-kick to seal the result.

Tactical Shift Shows European Promise

Despite the setback, Sunderland outshot their opponents 12 to 11. The head coach had demanded a hostile tactical response against Mikel Arteta’s squad, and his side delivered an aggressive second-half display. Speaking to The Northern Echo, Le Bris refused to blame his player.

“I think it was [very good goalkeeping rather than a poor penalty],” he said. “Raya was absolutely impressive today. We got the momentum and created chances, but it was a big save from Raya from the penalty.”

Fine Margins Decide Elite Fixtures

The Black Cats matched the Premier League challengers for intensity. Following their tactical adjustments, Le Bris believes his squad is rapidly improving. As quoted by VAVEL, the manager reflected on the narrow margins.

“Raya was one of the best players on the pitch today. It shows we are dangerous but not enough to score. We are really close. Winning is a process. They are at the top level right now. We were close this evening, it wasn’t enough, but it was a good experience for us and our fans. We are getting better game after every game, it’s hard to take but we need to go again.”

Sunderland will now prepare to host AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Wednesday.
