Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris has unlocked new tactical flexibility.
Chemsdine Talbi scored a decisive second-half winner against Hull City on Tuesday. The Moroccan international chipped Dillon Phillips to secure a 1-0 Carabao Cup victory. The goal followed a rapid counterattack from a Hull corner.
Adapting The Attacking Role
Le Bris heavily adjusted his starting lineup for the third-round tie. Preparing his rotated squad allowed him to evaluate Talbi in an unfamiliar No. 10 position. Malick Fofana and Jocelin Ta Bi operated on the wings as Sunderland secured their narrow cup victory.
The 21-year-old thrived centrally during the transition phases. “He showed in the past he can be a good winger but also just under the striker,” Le Bris told The York Press. “He has this space and this ability to exploit big spaces.”
Resolving Transfer Window Uncertainty
Talbi remained on Wearside despite strong external transfer interest. Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey monitored the winger throughout the late summer window, temporarily halting his European squad inclusion.
Speaking to Morocco World News, Le Bris addressed the attacker’s immediate future. “Now we have clarity, from his side, from our side, and we’re looking forward,” he said.
This central tactical experiment provides valuable attacking depth for the Black Cats. Le Bris will now assess his forward options before Sunderland host Arsenal in the Premier League this Saturday.
