After travelling to White Hart Lane in desperate need for points, Sunderland came away empty handed once again.
A late, strange change saw Jason Denayer replace Patrick Van Aanholt, with him filling in at right back and Javi Manquillo moving to left back. Jan Kirchhoff also started and there were returns from injury for Lee Cattermole and Steven Pienaar. Record signing Didier N’Dong also started at White Hart Lane.
A fantastic goalkeeping display from Jordan Pickford kept Sunderland in the game. However, having kept Spurs at bay until the 59th minute, Papy Djilobodji’s mistake gifted Harry Kane the simplest of goals.
Things got worse as Adnan Januzaj was sent off in the 90th minute for a second bookable offence. He was given his first yellow card for arguing with the referee and picked up his second after poor challenge on Ben Davies.
