Sunderland vs Exeter: Match Preview

Sunderland take on Exeter City tomorrow evening in the second round of the Captial One Cup. Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat has stated that he intends to field a strong team for the cup clash, hoping that a win will inject some much-needed confidence into the squad.

The last time these two sides met was in 1989, where Sunderland ran out 5-2 winners at Roker Park. Exeter are yet to record a win against the Black Cats in their club history but will be up for the challenge tomorrow evening.

David Wheeler and Christian Ribeiro are Exeter City’s two main injury concerns going into the game. Exeter boss Paul Tisdale, whose side have taken seven points from their opening four league games, is hopeful that his players can continue their upward momentum against a team three divisions above them.”It will be a great opportunity for us and it’s a nice problem to have,” he told Exeter’s official website. “We’re certainly not viewing it as a distraction to us and it’s one that we want to win.

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat had the following to say ahead of the cup clash,

Read Sunderland’s Prediction:

The game should be comfortable for Sunderland and will hopefully boost confidence around fans and the squad. I can see Defoe or Fletcher getting a few goals tomorrow too. Without many changes I can see this game being very one sided, however, if it is a close game, with more or less the same team, surely alarm bells will be rung. Sunderland 4-0 Exeter
