Six points from a possible twelve meant that November could be seen as a reasonable month for the Black Cats.
The month began in awful fashion, with a 6-2 defeat against Everton followed by a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Southampton. However, a Jermain Defoe goal saw the Black Cats claim their first away win of the season at Crystal Palace midway through the month. November ended with a fine home win against Stoke City, a win which took the Black Cats out of the relegation zone for the first time since August.
