Despite reports that Sunderland are looking at West Ham striker Andy Carroll, it is understood locally by Richard Mennear of the Shields Gazette, that the Black Cats are not pursuing the former Liveprool frontman.
Carroll has been linked with a move away from Upton Park this January with both north-east rivals Newcastle and Sunderland reportedly interested. However, it is believed that Sam Allardyce has been put off by the hefty £18-million asking price set by the London club for the injury prone striker.

Big Sam worked with Carroll during his time at West Ham and signed the forward from Liverpool in 2013 for a fee of £15-million. Despite Sunderland pursuing reinforcements up front this winter, the West Ham man is not on the shortlist for the Wearsiders. Sunderland fans will not be too disappointed with the news, with Carroll a former Newcastle player and boyhood fan of the Tynesiders.
Sunderland are going to be active this January with Jan Kirchoff expected to finalise his move from Bayern Munich in the coming days, whilst Danny Graham is attracting interest from the Championship as he enters his final months of his Sunderland contract.
