Premier league rivals eye Fletcher

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher is interesting West Ham United according to the Daily Mirror. It appears that the Hammers could be looking closer to home for a potential forward this winter, with Fletcher being mooted as a potential target.

The Scottish international has scored four times in 16 Premier League games this season but has been an unused substitute in Sunderland’s last four league games, a run that could see him look for a move.

Sam Allardyce has preferred to use Jermain Defoe as a lone striker in recent weeks, so Fletcher’s opportunities have been limited. It is not guaranteed that he’d get game time at West Ham, but the chance to be part of a European push rather than a relegation fight could appeal to him.

Fletcher is entering the final 6 months of his contract and is able to sign a pre-agreement with a team to sign for free in the summer, a route West Ham could also take. However, Celtic and clubs in China also remain interested in Fletcher as it appears increasingly unlikely that the Scot will be at the Black Cats next season.
