The Great Escape: From 20th to 14th

With Sunderland well down in the relegation zone and time running out, we’ve looked back to the 2013/14 season – when the Black Cats pulled off their “Great Escape” in the final six games of the season.

A Wes Brown own goal gave Everton a 1-0 victory at the Stadium of Light, leaving Sunderland bottom of the Premier League – seven points from safety – but with two games in hand on most of their rivals.

As you shall see though, the Black Cats did pull off one of the greatest ever relegation escapes and went on to finish 14th in one of the closest Premier League seasons ever.

Hopefully we’ll be able to do it all over again this year!

Enjoy this trip down memory lane…
