Black Cats eye Bosman deal for defender?

According to the Sunderland Echo, former Galatasaray and Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue is training with Sunderland at the Academy of Light this week as he hopes to earn a short-term contract with the Black Cats.

The 32-year-old is without a club and is hoping for a return to England, with Sam Allardyce offering the Ivory Coast International the opportunity to train with Sunderland this week. The Black Cats have 2 available slots in their 25 man squad for free transfers, with Allardyce eyeing a right-back and potentially a midfielder with the Adam Johnson case rumbling on.

The right-back slot at Sunderland has been a troublesome one all season, with both Billy Jones and loanee DeAndre Yedlin failing to impress over the past six months. Allardyce saw a deadline day move for Mathieu Debuchy fall through, leaving the Black Cats short on numbers at the back. Eboue’s lack of match fitness is worrying at this stage of the season, but his experience and quality could prove beneficial should Sunderland push through with a deal.
