Four Findings: West Ham 1-0 Sunderland

Another Patrick Van Aanholt mistake cost Sunderland as they lost 1-0 to West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday lunchtime. The Black Cats only have themselves to blame with defensive errors coming back to haunt them. Going forward, Sunderland were unable to capitalise on their second-half pressure with Jermain Defoe and Jack Rodwell unable to convert good chances after the break as the Black Cats searched for an equalizer.

With Sunderland unable to leave London with at least a point, Tuesday’s home tie with Crystal Palace has become a must-win clash. Here is what we learnt from yesterday’s defeat at Upton Park:
