- Sunderland in action on Wednesday night
- Match takes place at Stadium of light
- Winner reaches Premier League Cup final
Sunderland’s under-21s team are eyeing a victory tonight which would see them advance to a final fixture against Burnley.
There was jubilation at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, as Sunderland defeated Tottenham in the Premier League.
This saw Regent Le Bris’ team back up their win in the Tyne-Wear derby, as they stepped up their pursuit of European football next season.
However, tonight it is the under-21s team who will take to the Stadium of Light as they look to secure their spot in the Premier League Cup final.
What time do Sunderland play?
The young Black Cats will take on Blackburn Rovers at 7pm BST and tickets are only £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
Those unable to attend the match in person can catch all the action by tuning in to the club’s official YouTube channel.
Sunderland’s route to the semi-finals
Sunderland made an excellent start in the Premier League Cup, defeating Bromley 4-0 in their opening group stage game.
However, they were held to a 1-1 draw against Norwich City, before meeting their match in a 4-2 loss to Colchester.
Still, this was enough to qualify for the last 16, where Sunderland battered Nottingham Forest 6-1 away from home.
Most recently, the Mackems got the better of Watford thanks to two goals from Lewis Campbell and a strike by Finn Geragusian, handing them a 3-1 victory.
Sunderland are in high spirits
Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Derby County in their most recent match, Sunderland have qualified for the Premier League 2 play-offs. Therefore, the morale should be high within their camp.
Blackburn on the other hand sit 28th in the league and have suffered five defeats in their past seven fixtures.
However, the Lancashire outfit did manage to seal a win last Sunday, overcoming Burnley by a two-goal margin.
