Yesterday Sunderland fell to Norwich City at the Stadium of Light, as panic stations set in amongst fans. The 3-1 defeat showed Sunderland’s weaknesses and need for reinvestment with Dick Advocaat and fans looking a perplexed figure yesterday. A late consolation goal from youngster Ducan Watmore was not enough, after goals from Ryan Bennett, Steven Whittaker and Nathan Redmond had put the game to bed before the hour mark.
A team meeting is being held today by Advocaat as he looks to address Sunderland’s poor start before their season is out of their grasp. Sunderland must surely strengthen in the transfer window before it slams shut, with sections of home support becoming frustrated at owner Ellis Short for his lack of investment this summer.
Advocaat said post-match, “It is very difficult to explain the reason why we are not a team – 11 players play, but we are not a team.”
