Yesterday saw Sunderland claim their first point of the new Barclays Premier League season, with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at home to Swansea. A first half goal from Swansea forward Gomis was cancelled out by a great finish from Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe. That was Defoe’s 6th goal in red and white and his second of the new campaign.
Sunderland were a lot more organised and defended from the front, with Jack Rodwell and Yann M’Vila impressing in the middle of the park. Club captain John O’Sea returned to the defence and simultaneously returned some decent from to the back four. However, man of the match was no doubt Costel Pantilimon. The giant Romanian was colossal in goal for the Black Cats and made three world-class saves to keep the home team in the game. Sunderland take on Aston Villa next week at Villa Park, and will be hoping to carry on some momentum into the game following a midweek cup clash at home to Exter.
