- Sunderland in fine Premier League form
- Beat Newcastle and Spurs in past two fixtures
- Opta Supercomputer predicts end to winning run
Sunderland are looking to win a third successive match this Sunday, but the Opta Supercomputer does not fancy the club’s chances.
Last Sunday was quite the occasion for Sunderland, as they sent Roberto De Zerbi back to North London without any points after his highly anticipated first match at Tottenham.
There was little to shout about in the first half, but Nordi Mukiele scored later on to push the Black Cats into the top half of the Premier League table.
Next up, Sunderland face Aston Villa as they look to grind out another victory to keep their European dreams alive.
Opta Supercomputer predicts Sunderland defeat
The Opta Supercomputer makes weekly predictions for matches across the world, rating each team’s likelihood of a triumph.
Sunderland have been handed a slim 17 per cent chance of defeating Aston Villa, while the hosts are 63 per cent likely to collect all three points.
Such a result would greatly increase Villa’s chances of Champions League football next season. However, it would be a huge blow for Regent Le Bris and his team.
Sunderland have been less convincing away from home
While Sunderland have the sixth best record in the Premier League at home, their form on the road has been less impressive.
Indeed, the Mackems have only picked up 17 points from 16 matches, which makes them the 14th best team in the division for away matches only.
Despite this, Sunderland have won three of their past four matches as the visiting team in all competitions, including victories over Leeds and Newcastle.
Aston Villa are in shocking form
Although Aston Villa are statistically even better at home than Sunderland, they have already lost at Villa Park four times this year across the Premier League and FA Cup.
The Villains were battered 4-1 by Chelsea at their own ground back in March and most recently, they failed to overcome Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
On top of this, Unai Emery’s team are in Europa League action on Thursday night, meaning they will be less fresh for the game on Sunday.
Therefore irrespective of what the Supercomputer says, the men in red and white have what it takes to go and get a result in the Black Country.
